Writing my world, one word at a time. Here is a diary of my writings, thoughtful prose, wishful thinking, works in progress and my love for all things written.
This blog is my diary of works in progress. The only way a writer can improve upon her skill is to practice, practice and practice some more. Here, in this place of quiet peace, I pen to paper my thoughts and creativity. Welcome to my world.
I love books and right now, I am dreaming of getting my hands on Prodigy by Marie Lu once I read my tall TBR pile sitting on my desk! For this hop I am giving away a $10 Amazon giftcard so that you can buy the book of your dreams! :)
The Always War was a really easy read. I have not read the work of this author before so my experience with the story will be different from fans of her other work. I thought the story resembled a Star Trek episode where the "war" was a computerized fake war and people were selected to die in fake war attacks. This was similar. The characters were defined and developed although I really did not like Gideon. He truly was cowardly in nature but when he had to step up to a challenge he did. I liked Tessa, I think her character was by far the most developed. Her character is the only one that actually grows throughout the story. She goes from being a girl who does not feel like she will ever amount to anything, to recognizing her potential and going with it. The story was a bit predictable in that I knew from when they landed their ship and found a forest instead of military base that the "war" was somehow fake. The best part of the book was actually the last few chapters when things where in full motion and the truth was finally discovered. I would recommend this as a great for tweens and reluctant readers as it is short and filled with lots of action packed scenes. It was a nice change to see a story focus on the action rather than a 'budding romance' between kids.
The Dragon Empire by Heather McCorkle -- February 2013 / Compass Press
On Yacrana, dragons stand at the top of the evolutionary ladder instead of humans. Such an advanced species is not without its issues though.
There's trouble in the Dragon Empire, the kind that could start a war between dragons and the races of people. Hidden factions of dragons believe they should rule the lesser races, not simply stand aside and allow them to develop as they will. Having lived so long in peace, the Emperors turn a blind eye, many oblivious that such attitudes even exist.
Despite being only an architect class, emerald dragon, Grendar is willing to risk banishment and death to stop that which his rulers refuse to see. The hope of peace lies not within the scaled breast of a dragon however, but within the hands of a group of people. But if the hidden factions have their way, these people won’t live to fulfill such a destiny. With a reluctant seer at his side, Grendar must leave his precious Empire for the outside world to save those that will one day save his kind.

I am an author of fantasy, in all its many sub-genres. Living green, saving endangered species, helping other writers, and supporting fabulous authors are a few of my passions. I am also a volunteer for the IS Foundation which works to make the world a greener place. When I'm not volunteering, writing, or surfing my social networking sites, I can be found on the slopes, the hiking trails, or on horseback. As a native Oregonian, I enjoy the outdoors almost as much as the worlds I create on the pages.
